Yes, it’s four years since the world’s attention focussed on the giant bird’s nest (stadium) in China and we saw Usain Bolt charge through the finishing line to become the fastest man on earth. Now the world will be putting on their bowler hats and grabbing their brollies to set off for merry old England. We thought we’d introduce you to a few of the highlights of the games to look out for.
Usain Bolt
Or Insane Lightning-Bolt as he is sometimes known. He has got to be one of the highlights of the games. Will he break his world record, will he win the three sprinting golds again and more importantly will he appear to slow down in the middle of the 100m sprint before going on to win and break a world record like he did before. This time perhaps he will stop for a quick game at Partypoker.com before he goes on to win.
Jessica Ennis
The Brits have a heptathlete called Jessica Ennis, in fact she has been the world champion heptathlete in the past. Does this mean that the Brits also have a surprise tennis player Jessica Eptathelete they are hiding up their sleeve to win the tennis event?
Ralph Lauren
Well, Mr Lauren isn’t competing, but he has designed the US team’s ceremonial uniforms. According to him, they are “classic silhouettes in a timeless palette” although the NY Daily News asked whether they were really ‘chic crossing guards’. One thing is sure, they have berets – is Mr Lauren getting confused with the French here? Where did the berets come from?
The funniest sport
Will the best punches be pulled in the boxing ring or will the trampolining event have more bounce? For our money, the grunting weight lifters, the female wrestling, the gymnasts who slip and the traditional British sport of crumpet eating should be the highlights. Don’t forget to keep an eye on Jessica Eptathlete, not to mention the wrestler Jessica Estling.
